We are thrilled to announce that TupperS Law has won the prestigious Competition Team of the Year award. We were up against firms such as Allen & Overy, Ashurst, Eversheds Sutherland, Slaughter and May, Sullivan & Cromwell, and Travers Smith.

Our achievement stems from our pivotal role in assisting Socrates Training in securing victory in a landmark case before the Competition Appeal Tribunal. This groundbreaking litigation marked the first-ever standalone damages action under the tribunal's new accelerated procedure.

The case centred around Socrates Training's challenge against the Law Society of England and Wales. The Law Society stood accused of monopolizing the right to provide specific types of training to law firms subscribing to its Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS). At the heart of the matter was the allegation that the Law Society unfairly tied the purchase of accreditation to the CQS with the requirement to procure training services, thereby infringing upon Chapter I and II of the Competition Act.

Following the Competition and Markets Authority's refusal to investigate Socrates Training's complaint and prior counsel's opinion that no infringement had occurred, the company turned to TupperS Law for assistance. With a dedicated team, we embarked on a formidable challenge against the Law Society's formidable legal arsenal, which included Norton Rose Fulbright's competition team, a QC, juniors, and RBB Economics.

Despite the odds stacked against us, we successfully argued and won the case within a remarkably short timeframe of under a year. Our victory was underscored by a judge's acknowledgment of the case as a "classic David v Goliath" scenario—a testament to our ability to achieve success even against formidable opponents, all while operating within a constrained budget.

We are immensely proud of this achievement, which underscores our commitment to delivering exceptional legal representation and advocacy for our clients, regardless of the challenges we face.
